13 outlawed PBCP cadres held in Sirajganj
Police in a drive yesterday arrested 13 members of outlawed Purba Banglar Commu-nist Party (PBCP) from different villages of remote Chalan Beel area at Tarash upazila in the district.
Police launched the drive yesterday morning on information that the outlaws were resuming activities in the Chalan Beel area ahead of the upcoming parliamentary election, said ASP (Raiganj Circle) Mohammad Ayub.
A team of Tarash Police Station led by ASP Mohammad Ayub raided Golta Bazar and arrested Huzur Ali, 45, also regional second in command of outlawed PBCP.
On his confessional statement, the police team raided several more villages and arrested 12 other active members of PBCP.
The arrestees are Rezaul Karim, 26, president of Krishak-Majdur Mukti Front and accused of Abul Kalam murder case, Zahurul Islam, 28, Anil Chandra Mahato, 45, Hossain Ali, 50, Hasan Ali, 55, Yusuf Ali, 40, Sobhan Ali alias Shofa, 45, Abdul Hakim, 42, Mograb Ali, 41, Jalal Uddin, 30, Rezaul, 25, and Mohammad Raton, 35.
Police alleged that the arrestees are accused in several criminal cases, including murder, robbery and abduction, but they had been absconding since the drive of the law enforcers began after one eleven.
They returned to the area ahead of JS polls to create anarchy in the area, police said.
