'Vote out war criminals to revive spirit of Liberation War'
Speakers at a roundtable yesterday called on all to come forward to revive the spirit of the Liberation War by rejecting war criminals in the upcoming parliamentary elections.
Although political freedom has been achieved, economic freedom still remains elusive, they said, adding that the spirit of the Liberation War has been destroyed after the assassination of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and the four national leaders.
The weekly Ashe Din Jay organised the roundtable on the aspirations and achievement of the Liberation War at the National Press Club.
Speaking as the chief guest, senior joint convener of Sector Commanders Forum Maj Gen (retd) KM Shafiullah said, "We are working to raise awareness among the grassroots people so that they do not vote for war criminals. If anybody casts their votes for war criminals, it would be tantamount to disrespecting 30 lakh martyrs of Liberation War."
Barrister Amir-Ul Islam said political leadership in the country is a must to fulfil our aspirations.
Adviser to Rural Journalists' Foundation Md Gani Mia Babul presented a keynote paper at the roundtable.
Lt Gen (retd) M Harun-ar Rashid Bir Pratik, sub-sector commander ATM Abdul Wahab and President of Mujibnagar Karmachari Sangsad Abdul Latif Khan also spoke at the roundtable chaired by Editor of the weekly Ashe Din Jay SM Rafiqul Islam.
