<b>Candidates, voters face-to-face in Gaibandha</b>
A total of five candidates for upcoming general election in Gaibandha-2 constituency yesterday faced voters in a question-answer session held on the local Shaheed Minar premises.
The candidates are grand alliance nominee Mahbub Ara Gini of AL, four-party alliance nominee Commo-dore (retd) Shafi-ur-Rahman of BNP, AKM Bin Kashem Chowdhury of Bangladesh Khelafat Andolon, Khandaker Monjurul Karim of Jatiya Samajtantrik Dal, and Monjur Alam Mithu of Bangladesh Samajtantrik Dal.
The candidates committed themselves not to involve in any corruption and misrule if voted to power.
They gave assurance that they will try their best to change the fate of erosion- affected people of the district.
When asked, four-party alliance candidate Shafiq-ur-Rahman told the audience that if voted to power, the four-party government will continue its development work in backward areas with special priority to stop wide spread erosion of the river Brahmaputra.
In reply to a question, grand alliance candidate Mahabub Ara Gini committed that if voted to power, her government will establish a full fledged agriculture college in Gaibandha converting the existing agriculture training institute.
She said previous AL government enhanced facilities for freedom fighters including 30 percent quota in government jobs and national honour for them.
In future dependents of freedom fighter will get more facilities, she added.
Later, the audiences vowed not to vote for corrupt and dishonest candidates.
They also committed to vote for those candidates who are honest will work for establishing democracy, good governance and local development.
Organised by Sujan (citizens for good governance), the session was presided over by its Gaibandha unit President Mozharul Mannan.
