5-layer security for trouble-free polls
Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) has projected a five-layer security for holding a free, fair and trouble-free election slated for December 29.
DMP Commissioner Naim Ahmed yesterday said departmental punitive measures, including suspension from the job, would be taken if any of the policemen is found guilty for playing a partial role during his duty.
Sources said the security measures were projected at a workshop at the Rajarbagh Police Lines auditorium where the commissioner chanted his warning.
The programme was attended by all the deputy commissioners, officer-in-charges and operation officers and other DMP senior officials.
The five-layer measure includes deployment of forces at the vote centres, mobile forces' duty, reservation of striking forces at police stations and zonal offices, four control rooms at Shahbagh, Abdul Gani Road, Mirpur Police Lines and Chancery Police Lines at Gulshan.
Earlier, Naim told The Daily Star that they divided all the vote centres in the city into two categories -- normal and important. Of them, 50 percent are important, while the remaining are normal.
He said, “The centres located in the remote areas and consisting huge number of voters are identified as the important centres,” adding that strong rivalry among the candidates is also the cause of being the important centres.
