Victory Day observed in Geneva
The Bangladesh mission in Geneva observed the Victory Day in a befitting manner yesterday, says a press release.
The programmes of the day included hoisting of the national flag, discussion and a session of special prayers.
Ambassador and Permanent Representative Dr Debapriya Bhattacharya hoisted the national flag. He also presided over the discussion.
Dr Meghna Guhathakurta, who is now attending a UN meeting on human rights in Geneva, shared her personal experiences during the Liberation War.
She recounted the killing of her father, Prof Jyotirmoy Guhathakurta, a martyred intellectual, and the exciting moments of victory in the Liberation War.
Speaking on the occasion, Dr Debapriya paid tributes to valiant freedom fighters and the indomitable will of the people of Bangladesh to overcome all challenges.
The context of this year's Victory Day is being defined by the ensuing democratic transition and institutionalisation of pro-people governance, he said.
Later, special prayers were offered for the salvation of the martyrs of the Liberation War and for the peace, progress and prosperity of the nation.
