Hannan lone independent candidate in Netrakona
Abdul Hannan Khan, former deputy inspector general (DIG) of police, is the only independent candidate in five constituencies of Netrakona district in the upcoming general election.
He submitted his nomination paper as an independent candidate in Netrakona-5 (Purbadhala upazila and Mougati union of Netrakona sadar upazila) constituency after being deprived of the ticket from grand alliance as Awami League (AL) man, and got the electoral symbol 'deer'.
At the request of the party high commands, other rebels of both AL and BNP, who had submitted nomination papers as independent candidates, withdrew their nomination papers, but Hannan decided to run as independent candidate.
Hannan applied for a four-party alliance ticket on January 22 in 2007 election (later cancelled) but failed to get it.
In this constituency, Warasat Hossen Belal, president of Purbadhala upazila AL, has got the ticket of grand alliance.
Local sources said Hannan has become an impediment on the way of Belal's win in the upcoming JS election.
