Delwar sees AL's 'understanding' with government

BNP Secretary General Khandaker Delwar Hossain yesterday said Awami League (AL) President Sheikh Hasina's recent comments show that her party came to an 'understanding' with the government over the polls.
He, however, would not explain the nature of the 'understanding'.
Hasina on November 5 said her party would contest the polls even if the BNP decides to opt out of it.
She yesterday spoke out against any deferment of the December 18 election.
"As they (AL) have an understanding with the government, they're firmly saying that no matter whether other parties contest or not, elections have to be held on December 18," Delwar told reporters at his Nam flat in the city.
"But any election without the four-party alliance will not be acceptable," he said, adding that the AL's attitude shows as though they are on the way to forming the next government.
Delwar trotted out that the four-party alliance wants to contest the election but "we want such election where results would not be skewed".
He said the alliance will go to the polls if their seven-point demand is fulfilled.
Earlier the BNP secretary general held a meeting with city unit BNP.
