Call to lift state of emergency

Several political parties and socio-cultural organisations yesterday hailed the Election Commission (EC) for the announcement of election schedule.
This announcement has allayed doubts about the general election, the leaders of the organisations said.
They also urged the caretaker government to lift the state of emergency completely to create an environment conducive to free and fair elections.
Workers Party of Bangladesh (WPB), Bangladesher Samajtantrik Dal (BSD), United Peoples' Democratic Front and Bangladesh Nagarik Samaj thanked the EC and CG for the announcement.
However, the level playing field for all is yet to be created, BSD leaders said.
