Freedom fighter Mirza Tasmimul passes away

Freedom fighter Mirza Tasmimul Islam alias Bablu Mirza passed away at Appolo Hospital in Dhaka on Saturday evening. He was 72.
Bablu Mirza, also a modern farmer, sports organiser and social worker, was suffering from lung cancer.
He introduced vegetable and seed production with modern method and helped to popularise vegetable cultivation among the farmers in the region.
For his contribution to agricultural sector, he received president award for agriculture in 1980 and several awards from different national and international organisations.
Several times he served as general secretary of Thakurgaon District Sports Association.
He left behind wife, a son, a daughter and a host of relatives and admirers to mourn his death.
Thakurgaon Deputy Commissioner Miah Abdullah Mamun, district unit Muktijaddha Sangshad Commander Nur Karim and political and social leaders put floral wreaths on the coffin before his second namaz-e-zanaja after the Zohar prayers on Thakurgaon Zila school premises.
Two other namaz-e-zanajas were held -- at Miza Seed Farm of Prannagarh village under Birganj upazila in Dinajpur at 10:00am, and at his native village Mirzapur in Atwary upazila in Panchagarh after the Asar prayers.
He was buried with state honour at his family graveyard at Mirzapur.
