Discard war criminals in all six Khulna JS seats

District AL urges people, claims it has evidence to prove Parwar and Ruhul Quddus are war criminals

Khulna district Awami League has called upon the people to discard war criminals if they are nominated to contest from any of the six constituencies in the district in the forthcoming parliamentary elections.
The call was made at a press conference at Khulna Press Club yesterday.
Presidents and general secretaries of all the nine upazilas of the district were present there.
Four of them are nomination aspirants from Khulna-1, Khulna-4, Khulna-5 and Khulna-6 constituencies in the district while the rest are lobbying for party nod to contest for posts of upazila chairmen in their respective areas.
Senior member of district AL executive committee and former lawmaker Babu Panchanon Biswas who presided over the press conference said he has evidence to prove that Jamaat-e-Islami leaders and former lawmakers Mian Golam Parwar and Shah Mohammod Ruhul Quddus are war criminals.
Besides, Khulna City Ameer of Jamaat and ex-lawmaker Mian Golam Parwar still maintains close links with outlawed Biplobi Communist Party (BCP), Biswas claimed.
This underground party helped Parwar win the last general elections from Khuna-5 (Dumuria-Phultala) constituency, he added.
Trial of war criminals is now a demand of the nation he said, adding, this is necessary to establish rule of law and uphold the spirit of the Liberation War, he said.
Biswas said certain political parties are conspiring to foil the planned election as they think they will benefit from this. They think people will forget their misdeeds and crimes if the parliamentary election is foiled or delayed, he added.
Awami League is an election oriented party and is ready to participate in the December 18 polls.
The election must he held to save the country from a great chaotic situation. The government will be solely responsible if something otherwise takes place, he said.
Biswas said his party will nominate honest and dedicated people in the coming polls.
He reiterated his party's stance that it would not participate in next general elections without unconditional and permanent release of AL chief Sheikh Hasina.
The caretaker government is helping Begum Khaleda Zia get bail while opposing the same in case of Hasina, said the former AL lawmaker.
He also put a big question mark on holding of December 18 general elections, saying the government is faltering in taking vital decisions like release of Hasina. He said a free, fair and credible election can be held without participation of Hasina after her unconditional and permanent release.
He also demanded withdrawal of all 'false cases' against ex-lawmaker Sheikh Helal and ex-whip Mostafa Rashidi Shuja to allow them take part in the polls.
Biswas said that 1/11 changeover in the country and unlawful stay of an unconstitutional caretaker government is an outcome of political blunders committed by the government of four-party alliance. The BNP-led alliance government had planned to hold farcical election as per its blue print, which crated a chaotic situation brought the caretaker government, he said.
Meanwhile, Khulna district Awami League has thrown a four-day programme to press home their four-point demand.
The demands are withdrawal of all false cases against Sheikh Hasina, withdrawal of false cases and conviction orders against Sheikh Helal and Mostafa Rashidi Shuja, lifting of state of emergency to ensure spontaneous participation of people in election and announcement of schedule without any further delay to remove doubts about holding of December 18 general election.
The four-day programme includes token hunger strike and protest rallies in all upazilas on November 2, observance of Jail Killing Day on November 3, submission of memorandums to the Chief Adviser through all the nine UNOs of the district on November 5 and rallies in all nine upazilas on November 7.
