Juta demands punishment to attackers
Jahangirnagar University Teachers' Association (Juta) yesterday gave one week's ultimatum to the authorities to take action against those involved in assaulting Chairman of Drama and Dramatics department Sanowar Hossain Sunny, who was cleared of sexual harassment charges by the syndicate.
The Juta leaders took the decision at an emergency meeting at the proposed Jahir Raihan auditorium to decide its next course of action following the assault.
The Juta leaders also threatened to boycott classes and examinations if their demands are not met by the deadline. Juta President Ajit Kumar Majumder presided over the meeting.
They also brought out a silent procession on the campus before placing their demands to the VC. Juta will wear black badges on Sunday.
A number of students assaulted Sunny on Tuesday on the campus as he was declared Persona Non Grata on the campus after the syndicate cleared him of all charges on September 13.
Meanwhile, Pragatishil Chhatra Jote leaders took out a procession and submitted a memorandum to acting Vice Chancellor Md Moniruzzaman demanding punishment to JCD and BCL musclemen for beating the left-leaning party leaders during Tuesday's incident.
