'BFFEA does not protect dishonesty in shrimp export'
Speakers of workshop here yesterday called for protecting workers' rights in the export oriented frozen food industry.
But they urged all to refrain from sensitising issues, based on wrong information. This will harm country's image and exports.
The daylong workshop on 'Strengthening Workers Rights in Shrimp Industries in Southwestern Region was jointly organised by two NGOs Social Activities For Environment (SAFE) and Mamusher Jannyo Foundation (MJF). It was held at a local hotel.
Moderated by SAFE Chairpersons Qudrat-e-Kabir, it was addressed by, among others, director of Bangladesh Frozen Food Exporters' Association (BFFEA) Humayum Kabir. Representatives of shrimp workers also too part in the workshop.
Humayun Kabir, a said BFFEA had already taken steps to ensure minimum wages, appointment letter and ID cards to workers.
Referring to cancellation of licence of an exporter, he said, BFFEA does not protect such acts which will tell upon heavily on country's image and exports.
