Counsel remains hopeful about Hasina-Khaleda meeting

Barrister Rafique-ul Huq, counsel for Awami League President Sheikh Hasina and BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia, yesterday said he was still optimistic about a meeting between the two leaders in the interest of the country.
"If you seek public opinion, you'll see that 99 percent of the people would vote for a meeting between the two leaders," he said.
The veteran lawyer was talking to reporters after securing a stay order from the High Court on the proceedings of Barapukuria coal mine corruption case against Khaleda.
He said Hasina never ruled out sitting down with Khaleda, noting that individuals who opposed such a meeting between the two former premiers failed to meet the Awami League president in London.
"We will see what happens after her (Hasina) return," he said.
