Unesco award for Bishwo Shahitto Kendro

Bishwo Shahitto Kendro has been selected as one of the laureates for this year's prestigious Jan Amos Comenius Medal of the Unesco for its outstanding achievement and innovations in the fields of teaching and educational research.
The award will be given away on November 26 during the 48th session of the International Conference on Education at the Geneva International Conference Centre. Unesco Director-General Koichiro Matsuura will preside over the ceremony.
Director of International Bureau of Education Clementina Acedo in a letter invited Bishwo Shahitto Kendro Chairman Prof Abdullah Abu Sayeed to the award ceremony.
"Director-General of Unesco Koichiro Matsuura has approved the proposal made by the Comenius Jury to award you the Jan Amos Comenius Medal...The University Grants Commission proposed your candidature, which was endorsed by Bangladesh National Commission for Unesco," the letter to Prof Sayeed says.
Bishwo Shahitto Kendro is the only organisation to get the award this year.
Other laureates are nine individuals. They are Samira Al Saad of Kuwait, Prof Laila Ahmed Ei-Sayed Karam El-Din of Egypt, M Daniel Fernando Filmus of Argentina, Prof Phillip William Hughes of Australia, Prof Dr Basu Dev Kafle of Nepal, Onerva Maki of Finland, Mamadou Ndoye of Senegal, Sylvia Irene Schmelkes Del Valle of Mexico and Prof Tirussew Teferra of Ethiopia.
Czech Republic authorities, co-sponsors of the Comenius Medal, invited all the 10 laureates to a three-day study tour in that country during November 29 and December 3.
