Vow to work for political empowerment of women

It was a different day for women folk here as male political leaders yesterday vowed to work for political empowerment of women.
They took the vow at a view exchange meeting on 'Role of Political Parties in Empowering Women Politically.' Held at lawyers association building (old) here, the meeting was organised by Satkhira district unit of Bangladesh Mahila Parishad with its president Dilruba Rahman in the chair.
Participation of women in political-decision making process in national and local level politics is a must to ensure their empowerment, speakers said. Political parties should take various steps in this regard, they said. They said a nation can not achieve development keeping womenfolk in darkness as women constitute half of the population in the country.
Among others, District Awami League (AL) vice-presidents Abu Nasim Moina and Mahidul Haque, acting general secretary M A Ahmed, district BNP member secretary Samsuzzoha Bablu, JSD leader Advocate Nurul Alam, BSD leader Azad Hossain Belal spoke.
