HC asks NBR to accept Koko's revised tax return

The High Court (HC) yesterday asked the National Board of Revenue (NBR) to accept the revised income tax return of detained Arafat Rahman Koko, the younger son of former prime minister Khaleda Zia.
Passing the order on a writ petition filed by Koko, a division bench comprising Justice MA Rashid and Justice M Miftah Uddin Choudhury issued a rule upon the NBR to explain why its refusal to accept the income tax, amounting to about Tk 39.20 lakh remained unpaid since 2002 by the petitioner, should not be declared unlawful.
'The rule was made returnable in four weeks," said the court order.
Barrister Mahbubuddin Khokon appeared for Koko who is now facing a corruption case along with her detained mother in connection with awarding a container-handling contract to a particular indenting firm at Dhaka and Chittagong inland container depots.
