8 eateries fined for food adulteration

A mobile court during separate raids in Rajshahi city yesterday fined eight hotels and restaurants Tk 40,500 on charges of selling stale and adulterated foods.
Rab sources said the drives were conducted jointly by members of Rapid Action Battalion (Rab), district administration and Bangladesh Standards and Testing Institution (BSTI).
The eateries -- New Food Hotel and Restaurant, Shibganj Sweets, Tuhin Food Hotel, New Bidyut Hotel, Tripti Hotel and Cafe RAJ Hotel -- were fined Tk 5000 each, while Memory Biriani House was fined Tk 10000 and Amir Ali Fish Shop Tk 500.
The anti-adulteration team would continue its drive in the city during Ramadan, sources added.
