Indian clothes seized in Chittagong
Rapid Action Battalion (Rab) here yesterday seized Indian smuggled clothes, including sarees, worth around Tk 8 lakh and arrested two people in this connection.
Acting on a tip-off, a special team from Rab-7 led by Flight Lieutenant Mizanur Rahman intercepted a microbus from Feni at the Toll Plaza of Chittagong Port-Sitakunda by-pass road yesterday morning.
Sensing presence of the law enforcers, the microbus crossed the plaza speedily and headed for Chittagong city.
The Rab members managed to stop the microbus in front of the Sonali Bank on Agrabad Access Road at around 9:30am and recovered 300 pieces of georgette sarees and 127 pieces of three-piece smuggled from India. Two people were arrested in this connection.
The arrestees were identified as Md Mohsin, 27, son of Md Yusuf Ali of North Fazilpur of Feni and Md Mahiuddin, 35, son of Abdul Motaleb of East Chhagalnaiya of the same district.
During primary interrogation the arrestees said they brought the clothes for supplying to different city markets, said the Rab officials.
