A month-long art workshop organised in Toronto, Canada ended recently. The "Open-air workshop" was inaugurated by eminent expatriate Bangladeshi artist (living in Spain) Shahid Kabir. Mohibul Islam, the founder of Nandonik Fine Arts in Toronto, organised the programme.
Among others, two noted artists of Toronto -- Tom Phillips and Alexander Boris; Bangladeshi artists living in Canada -- Tajuddin Ahmed, Shamima Jesmin, Golam Mohammad and Mehrub Rahman also attended the inauguration of the month-long painting workshop.
Shahid Kabir said that it is our duty to inform and educate the next generation of Bengalis living abroad about our culture and traditions. Shahid Kabir flew from Spain to attend the workshop. He also talked to the participants about various techniques of painting.
Thanking Mohibul Islam, the speakers expressed the view that the initiative to organise the workshop was commendable. Traditions and arts keep one attached to his/her roots and heritage, they said.
Mohibul Islam said that such "mobile workshops" are held in accordance with the seasons -- summer, fall, winter and spring in Canada. Such workshops are held at different locations to draw the young people, he added.
The workshop has been organised under the banner of Nandonik Fine Arts since 2002 to encourage young Bengalis living in Canada.
