Govt programmes to celebrate Eid

An inter-ministerial meeting yesterday chalked out elaborate programmes for celebration of Eid-ul-Fitr, one of the biggest religious festivals of the Muslims, in a befitting manner.
The meeting was held at the Ministry of Religious Affairs with Adviser Hassan Ariff in the chair, as Eid preparations, including shopping, are already on stream.
The meeting was told that the main Jamaat (congregation) of the holy Eid-ul-Fitr will be held at the Jatiya Eidgah at 8:30am. In case of inclement weather, the main prayer session will be held at the Baitul Mukarram National Mosque at the same time.
The adviser asked the authorities concerned to think about informing the musullis about entry into and exit from the Eidgah through mass media and setting up location map of different departments at the entrance.
Public Works Department and owners of private buildings will hoist national flag atop public and private buildings respectively.
Besides, the main thoroughfares starting from Dhaka Gate at Banani to Bangabhaban and road islands will be decorated with the national flag and banners inscribed with 'Eid Mubarak' in Bengali and Arabic.
Public buildings will be illuminated on a limited scale. Bangladesh Television and Bangladesh Betar will air special programmes and newspapers publish special supplements on the Eid-ul-Fitr, improved diets will be served at different hospitals, jails, government children homes, vagrant welfare centres and distressed homes.
Moreover, film will be screened, cultural programmes arranged in different parts of the city and a children's reunion will also be held at the Shishu Academy after Eid-ul-Fitr.
Divisional commissioners, deputy commissioners, UNOs or local-government institutions, to celebrate Eid-ul-Fitr, will hold programmes in consistency with the national programmes.
Foreign missions abroad will also celebrate Eid-ul-Fitr in the light of government programme.
The religious affairs adviser called upon all to make the Eid festival into a “platform of communal harmony” and requested the media authorities to broadcast programmes keeping in mind the recreation of rural people alongside urban people.
Joint Secretary of Religious Affairs Ministrt AHM Afzal Hossain, Director General of the
Islamic Foundation Md Fazlur Rahman and senior officials of the ministries concerned attended the meeting.
