4 suspected hackers are brilliant students

The SAIC Institute of Management and Technology (SIMT) authorities will provide legal and financial assistance to its four IT students who were arrested on charges of hacking the website of Rapid Action Battalion (Rab).
The institute authorities have also urged the government to give them a chance to correct their behaviour considering their young age so that they can use their talents to serve the betterment of society.
Rab members arrested Abu Musa Mirza Kamruzzaman Shahee, Syed Mohammad Istiaq, Mohammad Zayedul Hossain and Mohammad Taohidul Islam -- all are fourth semester students of computer engineering -- on Sunday two days after the Rab website was hacked.
However, all the four are brilliant students. They achieved GPA+ and GPA in their examinations so far, teachers of the institute said.
They are well behaved and there were no allegations of crimes against them, Administrative Officer Mahear Nigear said.
As the practical examinations of the arrested students are going on, the SIMT authorities have also urged the Technical Education Board to make special arrangement so that they could take the exams.
Abu Hasnat Mohammad Yahia, founder chairman of the SIMT, told The Daily Star: "We have been trying to contact their guardians to discuss the legal process to secure bail for them. Besides, if their guardians need any financial and legal help, we are ready to provide it."
"We have also requested the Technical Education Board to make special arrangement for their practical examinations," he said, adding that "The board authorities have assured us verbally that they would consider their request."
SIMT Examination Controller Mohammad Rezaur Rahman said the four students have achieved GPA+ or GPA in all examinations and ranked in the top five.
After the arrest, the Rab officials handed over the four students to the Airport police and filed a case. The police took the students on a one-day remand for interrogation.
"During the interrogation, Shahee Mirza claimed that he alone was involved in the hacking," said Sub-inspector Mohammad Mashiur Rahman, who is also the investigation officer of the case.
"Shahee Mirza said he had no ill motive behind the hacking of the website and he did it just out of curiosity. He also hacked different websites of the government earlier to know about the weakness in the internal security of the sites," the SI said.
