Kamran assumes Sylhet mayoral office tomorrow
Re-elected Sylhet City Corporation (SCC) Mayor Badar uddin Ahmed Kamran, who took his oath in the capital yesterday, is scheduled to resume his office tomorrow.
He will take charges from acting Mayor Azam Khan.
Sylhet Mayor Badar uddin Ahmed Kamran, who had been detained since April last year as several cases were filed against him, was re-elected for the mayorship on August 4 elections and was freed on bail on September 4.
“I am grateful to the city dwellers for my re-election. I will try to make Sylhet City Corporation a transparent and effective organisation,” Kamran told The Daily Star yesterday.
While under detention, Badar Uddin Ahmed Kamran was re-elected in August 4 polls with a large margin. In compliance with the legal provisions, he quitted from the position of Sylhet city Awami League chief on August 31.
Earlier on August 27, a High Court division bench comprising Justice Sharif Uddin Chaklader and Justice Emdadul Haque Azad granted him bail in the case filed by The Anti-Corruption Commission and in the case under emergency power rules. Proceedings of two other cases were stayed earlier.
