Death threats to bank, agri officials for toll
Officials of different banks and the agriculture department in several upazilas in Khulna and Bagerhat are panicked as extremists threatened them with death for non-payment of tolls demanded earlier over cell phones.
Intelligence agencies have started investigation into the alleged threats.
Police sources said managers of Chtalmari, Morrelganj and Sharankhola upazila branches of Sonali, Rupali, Agrani, Krishi and Islami banks got death threats several times in last one week from cadres of Jonajuddho and M-L factions of outlawed PBCP for delay in paying tolls ranging from Tk 10,000 to Tk one lakh.
Chitalmari upazila agriculture officer and fisheries officer in Bagerhat district also received death threats for not paying tolls.
Officers-in-charge of Chitalmari, Morrelganj and Sharankhola police stations admitted that bank managers and others had filed general diaries (GDs) seeking security of their lives.
Agriculture officer in Sharan khola upazila Molla Golam Rahman said outlaws threatened to kill members of his family also. Bagerhat Police Superintendent Awlad Ali Fakir said he already informed police headquarters about this and ordered a vigorous investigation.
