Officials of Barisal Metropolitan Police (BMP) and Anti Corruption Commission (ACC) caught Sub Inspector (SI) Shahim Hassan of Barisal Kotwali model police station yesterday while re was receiving Tk 8,000 as bribe from an accused in an extortion case.
SI Shamim, as investigation officer of the case, had demanded Tk 10,000 as bribe from one Baker Ali of Vatikhana Road in the city.
Baker paid Tk 2,000 in advance earlier and informed ACC and BMP about time and place for payment of the rest Tk 8,000.
A team from ACC and another from BMP special branch kept waiting at Katpatty Road adjacent to Kotwali police station.
They caught SI Shamim while he was received Tk.8000 in currencies previously marked by the ACC team.
Later, more Tk 16,330 in cash and TT receipt for Tk 2,50,599 were recovered from of SI Shamim.
ACC Assistant Director Rammohan Nath lodged a case as complainant against SI Shamim with Kotwali police station.
Contacted later, BMP Assistant Commissioner Hayatul Islam told The Daily Star that SI Shamim was suspended and handed over to Kotwali police station after primary interrogation by ACC.
