Khulna jute workers announce fresh agitation programme

Workers of Crescent, Star and Platinum Jubilee jute mills will disconnect water supply lines of their officials' residences on Monday in protest against non-payment of arrears including wages for 15 weeks.
They will also bring out processions wearing shrouds everyday from September 8 till September 14 as part of a week-long agitation programme announced at a big rally held at Crescent Jute Mill Workers Club compound yesterday.
It was unanimously decided at the rally that 15 workers of these three state-owned jute mills will go for self immolation in front of administrative buildings of the mills on September 15 if the demands are not met.
The weeklong programmes also include formation of human chain from 8 am to 12 Noon on Khalishpur BIDC Road. Workers of seven state-owned jute mills in Khulna-Jessore industrial belt will join the human chain, Gazi Masum said.
Three high officials of BJMC head office who came to Khulna on Sunday failed to resolve the crisis in the jute mills despite holding several meetings till Thursday.
Sources said JMWDC leaders refused to accept arrear payment for one week instead of 14 weeks.
