Inefficient teachers create vacuum in education sector

Speakers tell Rajshahi seminar

The below par performance of inefficient teachers created a vacuum in the education sector, speakers at a seminar in Rajshahi said yesterday.
Zila Durniti Protirodh Committee (District Corruption Prevention Committee) organised the seminar on corruption in education sector at Rajshahi Teachers' Training College auditorium.
Eminent educationist and former director of National Museum Muslem Ali was present at the seminar as the chief guest while committee President Advocate Mohsin Khan presided over the seminar.
Former chairman of Rajshahi Secondary and Higher Secondary Education Board Prof Shirin Sufia Khanam and Rajshahi Teachers' Training College Principal Prof Begum Rokeya were present as special guests.
Dr Mostafizur Rahman, School Inspector of Rajshahi Secondary and Higher Secondary Education Board, presented the keynote paper at the seminar.
Abdus Samad Mondol, vice principal of Rajshahi Teachers' Training College, Dr Salim Sabrin, chairman of Bangla department of Rajshahi Government College, Dr Sadhan Kumar Biswas, deputy director of Secondary and Higher Secondary Education Board and Abdul Latif, former deputy director of Rajshahi Secondary Education Board, also addressed the seminar.
The speakers said that most of the teachers in primary and secondary levels were appointed by taking bribes and under political consideration and their below par performance created a vacuum in the education sector.
They also said that many of the teachers remain busy with taking private classes and do not take classes in the school or college timely.
And lack of interest in education and research results in their inability to make the classes interesting, they added.
As a result, the students are now eager only to get certificates, not acquiring knowledge, they said, adding that if meritorious students come to teaching profession, corruption and irregularities will be eliminated from the education sector.
General Secretary of Zila Durniti Protirodh Committee Dr Tashikul Islam Raza conducted the seminar.
