Bail papers reach Sylhet jail, Kamran yet to be freed

Sylhet City Corporation (SCC) Mayor Badar Uddin Ahmed Kamran was not freed from Sylhet Central Jail yesterday though bail papers reached the jail. A jail official told The Daily Star at 5:30 that they received the papers and were checking those.
“There is no scope to free him today (Wednesday)”, he said.
The official could not confirm whether Kamran would be released today (Thursday). He declined to say anything more.
Hundreds of people thronged the jail gate yesterday afternoon expecting to see Kamran freed. Kamran's wife Asma Kamran also waited for several hours at the jail gate.
The SCC mayor was arrested on April 6 last year in the much talked about kitchen market scam case and was released on bail on May 8 that year.
Joint forces arrested him again on May 28 last year from Sylhet city's Gulshan hotel under emergency power rules (EPR). He was given detention on June 4.
Kamran faces four cases including two filed by the Anti Corruption Commission (ACC).
