A schoolgirl committed suicide to get rid of social stigma after she was allegedly gang raped by two local crooks in Mithapukur upazila on Wednesday, police said.
The adolescent, a student of class seven of Ranipukur Girls' High School, was raped as she was befooled to visit a house at Ranipukur village.
School employee Farida Begum tactfully took victim Aduri Rani Mohanta, 13, daughter of Foni Chandra Mohanta to the house of one Belly Begum, 40, in the morning.
As per previous planning, alleged rapists Hasinur Rahman, 20, son of Hashem Ali, and Rashed, 22, son of Mahabul Alam, who were hiding in the house, raped the girl repeatedly and left the scene.
The incident forced mentally traumatized Aduri to commit suicide, police said adding she killed herself on arrival at her home to protect herself from social shame and deter recurrence of such incident.
Being informed, Mithpukur police rushed to the spot and recovered the body. The body was also sent to Rangpur Medical College Hospital for autopsy and later she was handed over to her father on Thursday.
Mithapukur Police Station officerincharge Ohidul Islam told BSS Belly Begum was already arrested and efforts are going on to arrest other culprits at the earliest.
