Tongi 80MW power plant shut down
The 80-MW Tongi peaking power plant was shut down yesterday due to a leakage in its cooling system.
Power Development Board (PDB) officials said operation of the power generation unit was halted at 5:35am after a leakage was spotted in the cooling system.
The officials, however, could not say how long it would take to fix the problem.
PDB control room officials said the country experienced about 1,000 MW of power cut during peak hours yesterday, a public holiday on the occasion of Janmastami, a religious festival of Hindu community.
The PDB and independent power producers (IPPs) together generated about 3,300 MW yesterday against a demand of 4,350 MW.
