'Put Sundarbans, Cox's Bazar on top of list'

Tourism sector will flourish if Sundarbans and Cox's Bazar are included in the list of New 7 Wonders of Nature, said Mahbub Jamil, chief adviser's special assistant for civil aviation and tourism ministry, yesterday.
He was speaking as chief guest at the launching ceremony of New 7 Wonders of Nature campaign in Bangladesh by Banglalink at Sonargaons Hotel in the city.
" We want to introduce Bangladesh to the world as a beautiful country where nature has given us many things lavishly," said Jamil.
The biggest mangrove forest Sundarbans and the longest sea beach in the world Cox's Bazar will also play a significant role in the economy of the country with the arrival of increased number of tourists from different countries, he added.
Jamil said a plan has been taken up to make the Cox's Bazar a tourism city and a national tourism authority will be formed to monitor the activities of the private sector in tourism.
Secretary to civil aviation and tourism ministry Syed Mohammad Zobaer said all institutions and organisations will have to put their best efforts to put the Sundarbans and Cox's Bazar on the top of the list.
Chief Executive Officer of Banglalink Rashid Khan said Banglalink is the official nominee supporter for Cox's Bazar in New 7 Wonders of Nature campaign.
A vigorous national campaign spear-headed by Banglalink throughout the year has been planned to raise proper awareness about the New 7 Wonders of Nature campaign with emphasis on the generation of votes, he said.
Banglalink is the first and only company till now to become the official nominee supporter by entering an agreement with the New 7 Wonders of Nature.
He said Banglalink will continue its active participation in tourism development activities under its CSR platform.
The launching ceremony was followed by a colourful procession with banners and festoons.
