Menzis Krira Chakra registered a 34-12 victory over Bhratitwa Samaj Kalyan Sangha in the 14th Cute Premier League Handball match at the Outer Stadium handball ground yesterday.
The winners dominated the first half 17-4.
Santh scored six goals for Menzis and Anik top scored for the losers also with six goals.
Dhaka Mariner Youngs Club beat Victoria Sporting Club 37-23 after leading the first half 17-10.
Helal scored eleven goals and Baijing nine for Dhaka Mariner Youngs Club. Humayun and Zahirul netted five goals apiece for Victoria.
In the day's other match, Narinda Progati Boys Club defeated Surjoday Krira Chakra 36-21 after dominating the first half 15-9.
NATIONAL BASKETBALL
The hosts got off a good start when the Premier Bank 23rd National Basketball Championship began in Rajshahi yesterday.
Rajshahi defeated Narasingdhi 67-35.
In the other matches, Bangladesh Army crushed Mymensingh 101-33, Bangladesh Navy outplayed Patuakhali 105-20, Bangladesh Rifles secured a comfortable 88-21 victory over Jessore, Khulna beat Narayanganj 91-42, Chandpur beat Kushtia 86-57, Bangladesh Police beat Bangladesh Biman 52-36 and Dhaka beat Patuakhali 82-26.
UNIVERSITY CHAMPIONS LEAGUE
Prime Asia became champions after a win over United International University in a penalty-shootout in the final of the University Champions League at the Banani Chairmanbari ground yesterday.
The match was held in a goalless draw during the regulation time.
The Golden Ball award went to Anunoy Huq Arnab of UIU, the Golden Glove was won by Ashiqur Rahman of Prime Asia while Yasir Arafat won the Golden Boot award.
The tournament, known as UCT 08, brings together 12 private universities from across the country to play in a league-cum-knockout round format.
The tournament is organised by The Source and sponsored by Pran and the daily Prothom Alo.
