Picture editors from international magazines chose Bangladeshi photographer Munem Wasif as the best young reporter for the City of Perpignan (France) award. The award will be presented at a programme on September 5, according to a press release.
Munem's award winning images titled, "Bangladesh, standing on the edge" will be displayed at Visa pour l'Image from August 30 to September 14.
The award is being conferred for the third time. Members of the jury selected the young photographer who, in their opinion, has produced the best report in 2007/'08, either published or unpublished. The prize is given in recognition of talent and is designed to help young photographer's complete projects.
Munem Wasif is the first Bangladeshi to exhibit at Visa pour l'Image. Visa pour l'Image (from August 30th to September 14th 2008) is a huge international event in photojournalism held in Perpignan. Photographers, photo agencies, editors, galleries and media personnel attend around 30 photo exhibitions, meetings, press conferences and debates, which are organised during the fortnight.
