AKTEL fined Tk 5crore for unethical subscriber re-registration
The country's telecom watchdog yesterday realised Tk5 crore from AKTEL for its involvement in unethical subscriber re-registration.
"AKTEL paid Tk5 crore fine to Bangladesh Telecommunication Regulatory Commission (BTRC) today for its involvement in fake subscriber re-re-registration," said Major General (rtd) Manzurul Alam, chairman of BTRC yesterday.
According to Alam, BTRC surveillance team found that AKTEL's appointed personnel were filling subscriber re-registration forms in a room of Jasimuddin Hall of Dhaka University on May 18 of this year. The BTRC team recovered around 25,000 fake re-registration forms from the place.
Earlier in August last year BTRC issued an order to Grameenphone, AKTEL, Banglalink, Citycell and TeleTalk to re-register customers who bought connections before February 28, 2006. BTRC had to extend the deadline four times, which ended on May 31, 2008.
In the recent past, AKTEL paid Tk145crore for its involvement in illegal international call termination through VoIP.
BTRC chief said "No one will be spared if found involved in any capacity in the telecommunication related illegal business."
