Syria, Lebanon agree to resume border demarcation

Syria and Lebanon have agreed to resume work of a committee to demarcate their common border, a joint statement yesterday by the two countries said.
The neighbours also agreed to examine another thorny issue, the fate of hundreds of people who have been missing "in the two countries" since the 1975-1990 civil war in Lebanon, it said.
The statement was read at a joint news conference by the foreign ministers of the two countries, Syria's Walid Muallem and Lebanon's Fawzi Salukh, as Lebanese President Michel Sleiman wound up a landmark two-day visit.
Sleiman and Syrian President Bashar al-Assad on Wednesday agreed to start the first ever full diplomatic relations between the two neighbours since independence 60 years ago.
