Coastguard rescues 10 fishermen from pirates
Coastguards rescued 10 fishermen from pirates in Dudhmukhi canal under Sharankhola range of the Sundarbans Forest Division on Monday.
The rescued are Badal Bepari, Moazzem Munshi, Lal Mian, Shah Alam, Majid Fakir, Mostafa Mir, Harun Howladar, Md Imam, Shahidul and Hazarat Ali, all hailing from different villages of Sharankhola upazila in Bagerhat district.
Later, they were handed over to officials of Shupati forest camp.
Earlier, pirates belonging to notorious 'Zulu Bahini' kidnapped the fishermen from the Baleshwar for Tk 1 lakh ransom on August 10.
They threatened to kill them for failure to pay the amount by Tuesday.
Being informed, Coastguards launched a drive in Dudhmuki canal in deep forest where the fishermen were held hostage in an engine boat. They rescued the fishermen but the pirates managed to escape. Coastguards also seized the engine boat of pirates.
