City polls lack enthusiasm amongvoters: Zillur
Awami League (AL) acting President Zillur Rahman yesterday said elections to four city corporations and nine municipalities lacked public enthusiasm due to the state of emergency.
“The government is claiming that the elections were held in free and fair manner. But it is seen that casting of votes was low due to lack of public enthusiasm,” he told journalists at his Gulshan residence in his reaction to the local body elections.
Zillur also said people had to suffer in casting votes, as there were errors in the voter ID cards as well as in the voter list.
He alleged that the local administration's excesses in enforcing the emergency law had created panic among the people. “This also harmed the expected congenial atmosphere of the elections,” he said.
