Zilla Parishad law, Local Govt Commission on cards

Chief Adviser Fakhruddin Ahmed yesterday said the government will enact Zilla Parishad ordinance and form an independent Local Government Commission soon for sustainability of the local government strengthening process.
He said the government has already finalised the Zilla Parishad ordinance and it will be promulgated in the near future.
The chief adviser was speaking at the regional level national dialogue on 'Turning to the democracy' at Rajshahi Medical College auditorium.
He said the government has enacted the Local Government Commission Ordinance and the commission will be formed soon so that the process of strengthening local government continues in future.
The commission will give suggestions to local government institutions on how they can operate effectively and strongly under a central government.
Education and Commerce Adviser Hossain Zillur Rahman conducted the dialogue.
Over a thousand people including academics, freedom fighters, businessmen, farmers, journalists, NGO workers, local government representatives and aborigines from 16 districts of Rajshahi division joined the dialogue.
