Rejoinder, our reply
Khulna City Ameer of Jamaat-e-Islami Prof Mian Golam Parwar has issued rejoinder to a news item headlined 'Three candidates hold secret meets with Jamaat leader Parwar' that was published in The Daily Star on July 27.
In his rejoinder, the Jamaat leader said that he did not hold any closed-door meeting with three mayoral candidates Moniruzzaman Moni, Enayet Ali and Moslemuddin. He termed holding of local body elections by present government as a clear violation of the country's constitution.
The Daily Star report published on July 27 was made on the basis of talks with Jamaat leader Parwar over phone about his meeting with mayoral candidates. The Daily Star correspondent also talked with the three mayoral candidates in this regard.
When contacted on Monday night, mayoral candidate advocate Enayet Ali again admitted to holding several meetings with Jamaat leader Parwar during last few days to seek votes. It is my democratic right to seek votes from anyone, Enayet said.
Mayoral candidate Moslemuddin, when contacted yesterday morning, again admitted to holding talks with Jamaat leader several times to seek votes in the KCC elections. Mayoral candidate Moniruzzaman Moni could not be contacted for his comment on Golam Parwar's denial of holding any meeting to seek his support in KCC elections.
