'Make public documents of Taher's trial'
Pro-JSD Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) yesterday demanded to make public the documents of the trial of freedom fighter Colonel Abu Taher.
BCL leaders and activists made the demand at a protest rally on Dhaka University (DU) campus organised marking the 32nd death anniversary of Colonel Abu Taher.
They alleged that the then military ruler Major Ziaur Rahman hanged Taher to death in a secret trial.
Terming the case and trial as false and plotted, they also said hanging a war-maimed freedom fighter to death was the violation of international human rights.
BCL leaders including Muhammad Samsul Islam, Yunusur Rahman, Azizur Rahman, Masum Khan, Rashedul Haque Rani, Halimuzzaman Evan spoke at the rally.
Our RU correspondent reports: The 32nd death anniversary of Colonel Abu Taher Biruttam was observed on Rajshahi University (RU) campus yesterday.
Marking the day, Jatiya Samajtantrik Dal (JSD) of RU unit brought out a procession, which paraded different streets of the campus. They also placed wreaths at his portrait on the campus.
JSD RU unit President Taimur Faruik Tusher and Secretary Zabin spoke at the rally.
A discussion also held at Momtajuddin arts building marking his death anniversary.
The speakers at the discussion demanded immediate handed over of power to an elected government. They also urged the new generation to carry Cornel Taher's philosophy and establish a repression free society.
