Ken Loach retrospective at Bangladesh Film Centre
Bangladesh Short Film Forum (BSFF) and Centre for Asian Art and Culture (CAAC) have been jointly organising retrospective film screenings, highlighting works of the master filmmakers since June this year. As part of the initiative, a five-day retrospective on British filmmaker Kenneth Loach (1936-present), widely known as Ken Loach, began at the Bangladesh Film Centre (auditorium of BSFF), Aziz Cooperative Super Market from July 12. Nine films directed by Loach will be screened till July 16.
Asadul Karim, member of BSFF, read out the keynote paper on Ken Loach's life and works prior to the screening of the director's Palme d'Or (Cannes Film Festival) winning film The Wind That Shakes the Barley (2006).
Loach is known for his naturalistic style highlighting social realism, evident in his film treatment. Some of his films, which will be screened at the retrospective, are – Kes (1969), Hidden Agenda (1990), Riff Raff (1991), Land and Freedom (1995), Carla's Song (1996) and Sweet Sixteen (2002).
Apart from this, the organisers will also arrange retrospectives on Robert Bresson (France) and Yasujiro Ozu (Japan).
Today Riff Raff and Hidden Agenda will be screened at 4 pm and 6pm respectively.
