4 of a family killed in road crash
At least five people including four members of a family were killed and another was injured in separate road accidents on Dhaka-Maowa Highway yesterday.
Police said a sand-laden truck rammed a CNG-run auto-rickshaw from behind at Hasnabad of Dakkhin Keraniganj at about 5:30am leaving four members of a family on board the auto-rickshaw dead on the spot.
The deceased are Mokbul Hossain, 45, his sister Joynab Bibi, 50, her son Arab Ali, 10, and nephew Torab Ali, 13.
The duty officer of Dakkhin Keraniganj Police Station said the four victims were returning to their house on the Dhaleswari river from Postogola.
The identity of the injured auto-rickshaw driver who has been undergoing treatment at the Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) could not be known immediately.
Police could neither arrest the truck driver nor seize the vehicle.
In another incident, a bus of Gangchil Paribahan hit Abul Hossain, 45, a laundry worker, while he was crossing the road near Ekuria Bus Stand at about 8:00am leaving him seriously injured.
Local people rushed him to the DMCH where the on-duty doctor declared him dead.
Two separate cases were filed with the Dakkhin Keraniganj Police Station.
