Gas emission from cracked pipe continues in Ctg

Gas emission from a cracked pipe of the Port Connecting Road in the city continued till yesterday afternoon due to lack of any step by the authorities concerned.
Sources said a construction firm appointed by the Chittagong City Corporation (CCC) is constructing a culvert on the road near Halishahar H Block.
At one stage of the construction, a crack developed on the pipe resulting continuous gas emission from Wednesday afternoon.
Local people said the crack was traced from the bubbles as the pipe went under water due to heavy downpour in the morning.
They also apprehended that due to movement of heavy vehicles on the road the crack may widen and cause an accident anytime.
None of the official or staffs of Bakhrabad Gas Systems Limited (BGSL) was seen at the spot till afternoon, they added.
The CCC Executive Engineer Rafiqul Islam claimed that the crack developed due to plying of heavy vehicles on the road and they have already informed the BGSL of the matter.
When contacted, the BGSL Emergency Unit Technician SM Alamgir said they did not receive any complaint of gas leakage on the Port Connecting Road till filing of the report at 4.45pm.
