Jahanara Imam's death anniversary not held as Shibir hinders
A programme on the occasion of fourteenth death anniversary of Shaheed Janani Jahanara Imam could not be held at Carmichael University College yesterday.
The programme arranged by Samajtantrik Chhatra Front could not be held at the college auditorium as the authorities cancelled all programmes for the day to avert unwanted situation when Islami Chhatra Shibir activists under the banner of Uccharan Sangskritik Gosthi vowed to observe Palashi Day at the same venue.
“We had to cancel the permission to hold the programme by Chhatra Front to avoid any untoward incident on the campus,” College principal Dipkendra Nath Das said, adding that he felt sorry for not being able to let Chhatra Front hold the programme despite his previous permission.
Carmichael College unit of Chhatra Front earlier got permission to observe the death anniversary of late Jahanara Imam at the college auditorium yesterday while Uchcharan Sangskritik Gosthi got permission to observe Palashi Day there on June 24, college sources said.
“Uchcharan Sangskritik Gosthi did not observe the day on June 24 and sought permission to observe the day yesterday. As I gave permission to Chhattra Front to organize their programme yesterday, I did not give permission to Uccharan Sangskritik Gosthi,” the principal said.
