Emdad Haque's fashion workshop concludes with a splendid exhibition
Distinguished fashion designer and director of the fashion house Banglar Mela, Emdad Haque conducted a workshop with 12 young designers at the beginning of this year. Seven of the participants displayed their creation in a two-day exhibition that was held at Drik Gallery, Dhanmondi from June 26- 27. Celebrities such as Kaniz Almas, Minu Haque and pop singer Mehreen were present at the inauguration.
The exhibition featured seven unique collections by participants Kaniz, Urmika, Lucky, Palash, Brishti, Nazia and Nitu. Each collection was in a distinctive colour, and motif created by the students themselves, such as butterfly, fish, rose, shell, etc. The vibrant shades of blue, green and orange set in ambience with the subtle white, yellow and earthy hues of brown. The line of simple yet elegant black attires produced a stark contrast to the otherwise colourful atmosphere. The collections included saris, kamiz, fatua, and punjabi that had been created in perfect harmony with the culture of our country. Another special attraction of the exhibition was the jewellery collection of exquisite pieces done in detailed beadwork and patterns of bright colours.
During the workshop titled “Fashion Pathshala”, the students learned free-hand drawing, the wonders of kantha stitch, usage of dye, and several other skills and techniques used in designing. They also went on field trips where they were able to discover their motifs from the simple elements of nature.
A portion of the money collected through the exhibition will be donated for the treatment of Zarif, son of photographer Latifur Rahman, who is suffering from cancer.
“The concept of this workshop was to teach fashion designing by acquiring and sharing experiences. It was like an orientation course to bring out the creative trait of young people and enhance their skills regarding fashion designing. The exhibition turned out to be very successful and I would like to conduct such a workshop in the future also if young people, who are eager to learn, come forward,” said Emdad Haque.
