Criminal killed in shoot-out with Rab in city
A criminal on the police list who had been a close associate of slain drug kingpin Abdul Hannan was killed in a shoot-out with Rab at Agargaon in the city early yesterday.
He was identified as Masud, alias 'Dant Bhanga' Masud, 30, son of Maznu Bepari of Chandpur. He was accused in a string of cases, including murders.
Rab said they beefed up their intelligence activities around Agargaon on information that Masud and his associates would be thronging there in order to cement their control over the area.
When the Rab intelligence team challenged four-five suspects loitering in front of National Institute of Local Government (NILG) at about 1:45am, the criminals opened fire on them, prompting a gunfight in which Masud died after being hit in the chest, Rab said.
Rab recovered one pistol and four rounds of bullet from the spot.
Masud's family, however, said Rab arrested Masud in Gazipur on the night of June 16.
His younger brother claimed that Masud went straight following the death of Hannan early this year, becoming a three-wheeler driver in Gazipur.
