Nirmalandu Goun's birthday celebrated in Netrakona
Renowned poet Nirmalandu Goun's 64th birthday was observed in a befitting manner last Saturday at his native village Kashtola under Barhatta upazila in Netrakona district. The celebration was organised by 'Kabi Nirmalandu Goun Janma Jayanti Udjapon Parishad'.
The daylong programme was observed at Kashban Bidya Niketan in the village. The programme included poetry recitation session, discussion and more.
Mohammad Mokammal Haque, UNO (Upazila Nirbahi Officer) of Barhatta inaugurated the function, by lighting a 'mangal pradeep'. The programme was presided over by Mansur Ahmed, president of 'Nirmalandu Goun Janma Jayanti Udjapon Parishad'. Among others, Professor Jatin Sarkar, former director of Bangla Academy; Abdul Hannan Thakur and Abul Kalam Azad spoke on the occasion.
The speakers discussed the life and works of the poet, highlighting his contribution to modern Bangla poetry.
After the discussion, a cultural function was held by the local artistes.
