“Fête de la Musique” begins today
A two-week long annual music festival "Fête de la Musique", jointly organised by Alliance Française de Dacca and the Teacher-Student Centre (TSC) of Dhaka University, begins today amid festivity and enthusiasm in Dhaka.
Besides Alliance Française, concerts will also be organised every day at different places such as TSC, Russian Center of Science and Culture, Jahangirnagar University and Hotel Regency, says a press release.
This music festival will end on July 2 with a grand concert at TSC, conveniently located at the heart of the Dhaka University campus. The concerts held during the festival are open to all.
Launched in 1982 by the French Ministry for Culture, the Fête de la Musique has long been celebrated in more than hundred countries across the globe. It is celebrated on June 21. The main objective of the festival is not only to popularise the musical practices among the people of the global village, but also to uphold their respective cultural and social norms and values.
Thanks to the impulse and the dynamism of the French cultural network abroad (the departments of Cultural Affairs at the French Embassies, French cultural centres and institutes and the Alliances Françaises) the Fête has had an important international growth.
