Charge sheet tomorrow
The long-awaited charge sheet of the sensational 'August 21 grenade attack on Awami League rally case' will be submitted tomorrow.
Inspector General of Police (IGP) Nur Mohammad yesterday said, “All the formalities have been completed and the charge sheet will be submitted on June 11.”
He however declined to disclose any details before its submission to the court.
The grenade attack left 24 leaders and activists of the party killed and around 300 others including party chief Sheikh Hasina injured.
Meanwhile, at a press briefing at the Police Headquarters yesterday Nur Mohammad said the law enforcement agencies are now using the non-bail able section 16/2 of the Emergency Power Rules (EPR) instead of the section 54 of the Criminal Procedure Code (CrPC) to ensure their confinement.
“We use section 16/2 of the EPR against those who are known to law enforcers as criminal but there are no documents against their criminal activities,” he added.
The IGP said during the current special drives, a total of 20002 people were arrested in last 11 days across the country and of them 191 are under the section 16/2.
Replying to a question, the IGP said, “There is no link between politics and the ongoing special drive.”
“If there is any allegation, the PHQ is open to all, and anybody can file complain with the Dhaka Metropolitan Police, Rapid Action Battalion or the intelligence agencies,” he added.
