Remain alert against any evil design to thwart polls
Taking a swipe at the Awami League and BNP leaders for demanding release of Hasina and Khaleda, Gono Forum President Dr Kamal Hossain yesterday said they want return of unhealthy politics and misrule in the country.
"The two leaders (Hasina and Khaleda) are not the sole owner of this country. So, the success of the ongoing dialogue with the political parties would not depend on their presence in the talks," Dr Kamal told a meeting of the civil society members.
He said the people want to see the end of sick politics, which was established in the country through killing of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman in 1975.
He also urged the nation to remain alert against any evil design to thwart the election.
He said the people are the ultimate power. And they earnestly desire a free, fair, neutral election in which black money and muscle power will have no role. That is the right way to secure the rights of the people.
Dr Kamal viewed as democratic process the government's dialogue with the political parties, which should not be disrupted. Disruption of dialogue would mean thwarting the election set for December, he added.
He urged the political parties to respect the people's views and give them the opportunity of choosing their representatives in the election.
