Seminar on water supply, sanitation
A seminar on water supply and sanitation, under the purview of the draft of the 2nd Poverty Reduction Strategy Paper (PRSP), was held in Dhaka last week.
Water Aid Bangladesh (WAB) organised the seminar in presence of the stakeholders in the sector so as to have their views and inputs to help formulate the 2nd PRSP, says a press release.
It said although water and sanitation was considered a critical element of the 1st PRSP agenda, WAB budget analysis for the last two years shows that adequate budgetary allocation has not been made in the Annual Development Programmes (ADPs) for water supply and sanitation.
Even the needs of the sector have not been adequately reflected in the government approved Sector Investment Plan, it said.
The draft of the second PRSP is prepared, focusing the millennium development goals (MDGs). Therefore, there is the possibility of not achieving the national water supply and sanitation targets such as basic water supply and sanitation services for all by 2010. The national water supply and sanitation targets are set to attain by 2011 in the draft of the 2nd PRSP, the release added.
